Good Luck Chuck

Posted by Rachel S. on Thursday, January 6, 2011, In : Boys and Dating
I think I'm cursed. Have you ever seen the movie with Dane Cook, where every girl he hooks up with marries the next guy she meets? Well, I'm Dane Cook. It all started with my college boyfriend. After dating for a few years, I broke up with him when I transferred to a university in another state. He ended up marrying the rebound girl. Since then, I've dated a multitude of useless men. There have been a few that I genuinely liked, but those guys ultimately rejected me and subsequently started s...

The Professor

Posted by Rachel S on Monday, October 4, 2010, In : Boys and Dating

During my last visit to Aspen, I was minding my own business, surfing the web on my laptop at a local coffee shop, when an older gentleman asked me which network to use for internet service.  I told him, and engaged in some small talk. It turns out, he's a physics professor at Yale, and was visiting Aspen for an annual physics convention.  He has a post-doctorate degree and is obviously way more cerebral than me. Although I was not attracted to this person in any capacity, I was curious to se...

Rejected!

Posted by Rachel Scott on Monday, September 13, 2010, In : Boys and Dating

I don't know why. But, I still get nervous around boys I like. Not just a few butterflies nervous-- more like sweaty, crack-head nervous. I can't seem to control my child-like impulses to talk at 100mph or constantly vie for attention. It's pathetic. Moreover, it's not ME! As a result, these guys think I'm a total freak. As I've said before, I overstep my boundaries and justify undignified behavior when I have a crush. As usual, my plan backfires and I end up rejected and confused. Here's the...

How To Lose a Guy in One Day

Posted by Rachel Scott on Saturday, August 28, 2010, In : Boys and Dating

Earlier this evening, I was sharing a lovely bottle of Cabernet with some girlfriends, while admiring a magnificent sunset from the rooftop of my apartment. Conversation turned to boys, as it often does after two bottles of wine.  One friend said that she had boys pining over her. Another friend asked for her secret. Her response: "It's easy! I just don't sleep with them."  How old-fashioned, I thought. But then I had an epiphany: the more I reject a guy's sexual advances, the more he seems t...

Don't Pee On Me!

Posted by Rachel Scott on Monday, August 23, 2010, In : Boys and Dating

In addition to POF dates, I have been dating in the real world too. Unfortunately, it has been just as annoying. The main reason: I keep getting peed on. I'm speaking metaphorically, of course. It's like when a dog pees on a pole to claim his territory. A man does the same thing to a woman when he holds her hand or puts his arm around her in front of others. He wants everyone to know that she is his. When I am not interested in a guy, I don't like it! I just feel like I'm being cock-blocked a...

Clueless

Posted by Rachel Scott on Monday, August 16, 2010, In : Boys and Dating
When it comes to men and dating, I am obviously clueless. I recently learned of a new unwritten rule for women: offer to pay on the first date. Huh?!

I was chatting with a male friend about dating and dating etiquette. I told him that I usually do NOT offer to split a check on a first date. However, I am more than happy to reciprocate down the road, usually by the second or third date. He told me that if a girl doesn't at least offer to pay half on the first date, it's a deal breaker! His theo...

Aspen Doc

Posted by Rachel S. on Saturday, July 31, 2010, In : Boys and Dating

I love/hate Aspen! This week, I've changed my mind multiple times as to whether I'm moving back or not. Just when everything seemed to be falling into place, something else happened that made me want to book the next flight back to NYC. It's amazing how just one night can change everything...

Today, I worked from 8am until 10:30pm. Although exhausted, I met up with a friend. We drank a beer at a local pub before heading to a dance club. On our short walk from the bar to the club, I spotted Lak...

Hamptons

Posted by Rachel Scott on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, In : Boys and Dating
I think that all of us girls have had a "psycho" moment (or two)-- an act of irrational behavior when dealing with the opposite sex. In retrospect, we would take back these incidences and vow to never repeat the behavior. But, we usually do. At least I do-- which is why I'm still single.

Here's (one of) my psychosis: If I've been seeing a guy and stop hearing from him, I over-analyze the possible reasons for the sudden lack of communication. I make excuses such as: He must have lost his phone...

Statistics Schmatistics!

Posted by Rachel S. on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, In : Boys and Dating

I've read several articles that claim there's a man shortage in NYC. There's charts, graphs, horror stories, and statistics that support this glim claim. Well I'm here to let you know that it's a load of crap! I've only been here for 12 days, and can't seem to keep them away! Everywhere I go I have men approaching me. And most of them are actually interesting, attractive, succussful men who act like they actually want to get to know me. And they're even asking me for actual dates, rather than...

The Odds Are Good, But The Goods Are Odd

Posted by Rachel Scott on Thursday, July 8, 2010, In : Boys and Dating
In Colorado, us girls have a saying: The odds are good, but the goods are odd. Basically, there's a lot of men in Colorado. But, most of them are ski bums who smoke pot all day and don't have a career or ambition. Let me give you some examples of dating experiences that I've had in Colorado. Hmmm... where shall I begin?

1. "Chef" was very cute, and totally into me. Unfortunately he was more into booze, pot, and psychedelic mushrooms. Before I realized the extent of his bad habits, we shared so...

About Me

Rachel Scott Originally from Chicago, I migrated to Boulder,CO in 1997. I've been in Colorado ever since- leaving only when contracted for work by Club Med Resorts. I had contracts in Mexico, Saint Lucia, Turks and Caicos, and Florida. But after a long-time of being over-worked and under-appreciated as a choreographer, I quit and moved to Miami. After nearly a year of living in America's butthole, I went on an emergency vacation to Aspen, CO for X-games in 2006, and never left... until now. Goodbye quaint little mountain town; Hello concrete jungle!
