I think that all of us girls have had a "psycho" moment (or two)-- an act of irrational behavior when dealing with the opposite sex. In retrospect, we would take back these incidences and vow to never repeat the behavior. But, we usually do. At least I do-- which is why I'm still single.

Here's (one of) my psychosis: If I've been seeing a guy and stop hearing from him, I over-analyze the possible reasons for the sudden lack of communication. I make excuses such as: He must have lost his phone. These thoughts then snowball into more irrational and less likely scenarios--like maybe he's in jail (which actually did happen) or maybe he's in the hospital, unconscious and unable to use his phone. This is extremely stupid, I know. But somehow, I convince myself that whatever guy I'm into, is totally into me too. I'm usually wrong, of course.

Here's another psycho scenario: If some guy that I wasn't really into came over to my place or tried to make friends with my friends, I would probably file a restraining order! While I am completely embarrassed to admit that I actually did this, I swear it was a total accident!

Here's what happened: I met "Fun Guy" while on vacation to NYC last year. I hung out with him and his equally fun roommates for a week or two. When I returned to NYC, I called them to hang out. Unfortunately, Fun Guy was out of town. But, I selfishly made plans to hang out with a couple of his friends. I had a great time. Naturally, I called them up the next time I made a trip to the city. One of his roommates even invited me to a party at their place. I texted Fun Guy to give him the heads up that I was planning on attending. I assumed it was cool. I was wrong. To make a long story short, I was blacklisted from functions at Fun Guy's place! Totally humiliated, I cut off all contact with Fun Guy and his roommates. However, I became buddies with his non-roommate friend, "Buddy". After a while, I even forgot that Buddy and Fun Guy were friends.

By the time I made the move here to NYC, I thought that enough time had passed (6 months) that it wouldn't be weird if I bumped into Fun Guy. Again, I was wrong. It actually wasn't too bad when I ran into him at Buddy's birthday party at a local bar. Although slightly uncomfortable, there were a lot of people there to distract me.

The next day, Buddy's birthday celebration continued with a trip to the Hamptons. He had arranged a party bus to drive guests up. So, I assumed that there would be a ton of people going. Yet again, I was wrong. I nearly pooped my pants when I stepped onto the bus and saw Fun Guy, Fun Guy's roommates, Fun Guy's friends, plus like three other people I hadn't met. Awkwaaaaard! Thank God my roommate, Cool Guy, came with me.

I tried to play it cool. But, there was an elephant in the room for sure! The elephant followed us everywhere: the pool, the club, the house, etc. It actually felt bigger than an elephant-- more like a dinosaur. Anyway, Fun Guy and his friends were all very nice. They are actually really cool people that were put in an extremely awkward position. I have nothing bad to say about any of them. I actually feel bad for causing discomfort at Buddy's celebration. Had I known the guest list, I don't think I would have gone.

There is some good that came out of the trip: Watching Fun Guy interact with girls made me realized that despite his extreme hotness, Fun Guy is gross. He'll hook up with anything that moves. Especially if 'anything' is an extremely intoxicated, unattractive female. Funny story: I was chatting with a guy who commented, "I hate guys like that-- who take advantage of drunk girls." I laughed when I realized that he was referring to Fun Guy.

Lesson learned: Don't act like a psycho. But if you do, avoid the person/people who witnessed such behavior. And if you do find yourself in a situation with the person who rejected you because you acted like an idiot, find fault in them to make yourself feel better. :)
